About

One brand, one stretch of coast

Pier Street Appliance is an independent appliance repair company working Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach. We service Thermador equipment and nothing else.

Why only one manufacturer

A service van has a finite amount of shelf. Fill it with a thin spread of five brands and you carry the wrong part to every call. Fill it with one and you carry the door gaskets, hinge cams, thermistors, fill valves and control components that the appliances in this ZIP actually use.

That is the whole argument. We stock for Thermador, we read Thermador service literature, and we have seen the same handful of beach-specific failures enough times to recognise them from the kerb. If you have another make, we are the wrong call — we will say so on the phone rather than take a diagnostic fee for a shrug.

Why the beach, specifically

Two things separate a kitchen here from one eight miles inland. The first is air. Salt is hygroscopic. It holds moisture against aluminium condenser fins and turns kitchen dust into a paste that packs the gaps instead of blowing through. Refrigeration that would run five years inland between condenser cleanings can be visibly loaded here in eighteen months, and a hood blower a few blocks from the surf tells you it is going with a rumble long before it seizes.

The second is the weather. This coast averages roughly 68 thunderstorm days a year and has sat through multi-day outages after Matthew in 2016, Irma in 2017 and Helene in 2024. Very little of the electronic work we do follows a direct strike. It follows the accumulation — small transients and messy restorations wear out the protective components in an appliance power supply, and the failure lands weeks later on a clear day.

The third thing is not weather at all: it is the housing. The older beach core holds cottages that were renovated in stages, so modern built-ins sit in openings that were widened by hand, on circuits that were extended rather than redesigned. The newer end of the coast holds whole matched packages that went in together and now age together. Those are different service calls, and that is why every place page on this site is written separately rather than from a template.

How a visit actually goes

You call during posted hours and we book a window. We arrive, we diagnose, and you get a written estimate before a part is ordered or a panel comes off. The $129 diagnostic is flat and it is credited toward the repair if you go ahead. If you do not, you keep the diagnosis and the paperwork and owe nothing further.

We do not run emergency or after-hours service. We would rather tell you the soonest honest slot is Thursday than book a window we already know we will miss.

Plain statement

What we are not

This one matters enough to put in its own section rather than a footnote.

We are an independent shop. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by Thermador or BSH Home Appliances. We are not a service centre for them, we hold no manufacturer programme membership, and nothing on this site should be read as suggesting otherwise. We name the brand for one reason only: to tell you which appliances we repair.

What we do hold, we will produce on request:

  • EPA Section 608 certified technicians for sealed-system refrigerant work
  • Licensed and insured in the State of Florida
  • Genuine OEM parts only — no aftermarket substitutes

If a repair company tells you more than that without showing you paperwork, discount it.
