Neptune Beach 32266: ovens, columns and a short walk to salt
A small ocean-side town on compact lots, where almost every kitchen is a short walk from the Atlantic and access planning decides how long a job takes.
Repair or replace, and how we put that to you
Neptune Beach is 32266, wedged between Jacksonville Beach to the south and Atlantic Beach to the north, and the kitchens here hold a lot of built-in equipment that is now eight to fifteen years old. The question we get asked most often is not what is wrong with it. It is whether it is worth fixing.
The honest answer starts with the cabinetry. A built-in was installed before the counters and the panels went on around it, and its opening was sized for it. Replacing it is a carpentry project as well as an appliance purchase, and a replacement of a different depth or height turns into new panels, new trim and sometimes new stone. That is why a repair that would be marginal on a freestanding machine is often clearly worth doing on a built-in.
Then the fault itself. Mechanical and electromechanical work — hinges, gaskets, door springs, fill valves, drain pumps, blower wheels, igniters, thermistors — is usually good economics on any cabinet that is otherwise sound. Control boards are the middle ground: expensive, but a fraction of a replacement, and worth doing once on a cabinet with a healthy sealed system.
A sealed-system failure is where we slow down. If a compressor has spent a year running at elevated head pressure behind a packed condenser, the repair can cost a large share of what the cabinet is worth, and the rest of the system has aged alongside it. We measure first, quote in writing, and say plainly when we think the money is better spent elsewhere. Plenty of people take the written estimate, decide the appliance has had its run, and use the paperwork to argue the replacement instead. That is a legitimate outcome of a diagnostic visit.
A short walk to the Atlantic
Neptune Beach is small and almost all of it is within a short walk of the ocean. There is no inland half of this town to compare against.
That puts every kitchen here in the high-exposure category for the failures salt causes: condenser fins that pack with a damp, salt-bound dust instead of shedding it, hood blower bearings that roughen and start to rumble years earlier than they would inland, hinge hardware and fasteners that corrode, and stainless surfaces that bloom rust spots when chloride is left to sit on them.
Our standing advice for 32266 is condenser cleaning twice a year, hood filters through the dishwasher monthly, and a look at the exterior duct cap once a year. That is not upselling — it is the maintenance interval this location earns.
The housing here
Neptune Beach is largely older beach housing on compact lots, with a steady stream of renovations and rebuilds through it. Both ends of that spectrum show up in our work.
In a renovated older house the appliance is usually newer than the kitchen around it. We find columns fitted into openings that were widened by hand, toe-kick grilles blocked by added trim, ventilation ducted around obstacles with more elbows than the rating allows, and circuits that were extended rather than replaced when a modern cooking package went in.
In a rebuild the installation is generally correct but the envelope is tight, and a hood that cannot draw make-up air moves far less than its rating suggests no matter how healthy the blower is.
Lots are narrow and street parking is limited. If a cabinet has to come out we plan the route and the door removal in advance, because doing that improvisation on the day is what turns a two-hour job into a four-hour one.
What we service, and where the kitchen stops
Thermador only, and nothing else. Built-in refrigeration, wine and under-counter cabinets, wall ovens and ranges, steam ovens, cooktops and rangetops, dishwashers and ventilation.
That is a kitchen list, and it is the whole list. Heating and cooling are a separate trade with separate licensing, and we do not work in it — not furnaces, not heat pumps, not air handlers, not house air conditioning, not the ducts that serve any of them. Neptune Beach is small enough that we get asked, usually by someone who found us while looking for something else entirely, and the honest answer is always the same: not our trade, here is what we do instead.
What we do instead is the appliance that is built into the cabinetry. The air-conditioning system matters to us only as weather — a kitchen held cool all summer is a kinder room for a condenser than an open one, and a house shut up tight against the heat is a house where a hood has nothing to draw replacement air from. Both of those change how a built-in behaves, and neither of them is work we are equipped to take on.
We are an independent repair company. Working on one manufacturer is what lets us carry the right gaskets, hinge hardware and diagnostic approach instead of a little of everything. It also means we say so early when a fault is outside what an independent shop should take on — anything still inside a manufacturer warranty belongs in the manufacturer’s own channel first, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than take the diagnostic fee.

Neptune Beach · what it costs
What does a repair in Neptune Beach cost?
The same book everywhere we go — there is no Neptune Beach surcharge and no coastal loading. Parts and labour, fitted, after the flat diagnostic.
| What was actually wrong | Parts and labour, fitted |
|---|---|
| The visit and the diagnosis | $80 flat |
| Oven thermostat or temperature sensor | $190–$520 |
| Igniter, spark module or surface element | $190–$500 |
| Door hinge, glass or seal | $190–$640 |
| Control board or touch panel | $420–$1,020 |
The $80 buys the visit and the diagnostic sequence, and it comes off the bill the moment you approve the work. Every row below is a range because what a part costs turns on which production revision is sitting in your cabinetry, and nobody knows that until the rating plate has been read. The whole table is on the pricing page.
Neptune Beach — asked on the phone
Is it worth repairing a built-in that is more than a decade old?
Usually, and the cabinetry is why. A built-in went in before the counters and the panels closed around it, so replacing it is a carpentry project as well as a purchase. Repairs that would be marginal on a freestanding machine are often clearly worth doing here.
When do you say a cabinet is not worth fixing?
When a sealed system has failed on a cabinet that has already spent a long stretch running at high head pressure. We measure first, put the figure in writing, and then say plainly that the money is better spent on a replacement rather than leaving the estimate to imply it.
Does the compact lot layout change how a visit is booked?
It changes where the van stops and how the appliance leaves the kitchen. Lots here are tight and driveways are short, so access is worked out before the morning rather than on it, and that is the difference between a job that runs long and one that does not.

It washes again. It also took three visits, and on one of them the technician turned up without the seal he had come to fit. The work itself, once it was done, has held without trouble.
Horatio Z.
Condensation was running down the inside of the glass every morning. He replaced the heated door frame element, which I did not know existed, and reset the humidity control. The glass has stayed dry since.
Solveig B.
The hood lights work again and the switch is responsive. It needed two visits because the panel he brought was for the wrong width, which was frustrating when I had sent a photograph of the plate in advance.
