Questions

Questions we get asked

The same dozen come up on the phone every week. Here they are in writing so you can read them before you call.

01

Booking a visit

How do I book?

Phone is fastest — +1 (904) 605-5889. We take scheduled appointments during posted hours: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 6:00pm, Saturday 9:00am – 4:00pm.

Closed Sunday. Scheduled appointments only — no emergency or after-hours service.

Do you run emergency or after-hours calls?

No. There is no night line, no weekend surcharge and no same-day promise we cannot keep. If the soonest honest slot is next week, we will say so on the phone rather than book you into a window we already know we will miss.

What should I have ready when I call?

The appliance type, roughly how old it is, and the symptom in your own words — what it does, when it does it, and whether it does it every time.

If the rating plate is reachable, the model number is worth more than any description. On a column it is usually inside the door frame on the hinge side; on a wall oven it is behind the door on the frame; on a dishwasher it is on the tub edge.

Which places do you cover?

Jacksonville Beach 32250, Atlantic Beach 32233, Neptune Beach 32266. That is Jacksonville Beach, FL and the Duval County coast either side of it.

We are a mobile operation. There is no walk-in counter and no shop address to drive to, which is why none is published.

02

Cost and warranty

What does the visit cost?

A flat $129 diagnostic covers the visit and the diagnosis. It is credited toward the repair if you go ahead with the work.

You get a written estimate before any part is ordered or any labor begins. Nothing is opened up on a maybe.

What if I decide not to go ahead with the repair?

Then you have paid $129 for a diagnosis and a written estimate, and you keep both. There is nothing else to pay and no pressure applied. Plenty of people take the estimate, decide the appliance has had its run, and use the paperwork to argue a replacement.

What is covered afterwards?

Labor is warranted 90 days. Genuine OEM parts are warranted 365 days from the date of installation.

Genuine OEM parts only — no aftermarket substitutes.

How long does a part take to arrive?

It depends which part. Common wear items — door gaskets, hinge hardware, thermistors, fill valves, drain pumps, igniters — ride on the van, and those are usually a one-visit repair.

Control boards and assemblies that are specific to a production revision get ordered, and they take days rather than hours. That is why we ask for the rating plate before the visit: model and serial together, because the same model designation can cover several revisions and the part that fits one does not always fit the next. You are told which category your fault falls into when we quote it.

Is it worth repairing a built-in that is twelve years old?

Usually, and the reason is the cabinetry. A built-in was installed before the counters and panels went in around it, so replacing it is a carpentry project as well as an appliance purchase. Repairs that would be marginal on a freestanding machine are often clearly worth doing here.

The exception is a sealed-system failure on a cabinet that has already spent a long time running at elevated head pressure, where the repair can cost a large share of what the cabinet is worth. We measure first, quote in writing, and say plainly when we think the money is better spent on a replacement.

Can you work on an appliance still under manufacturer warranty?

We can, but you should call Thermador first. Warranty work has to be routed through the channel the manufacturer names, and a repair by an outside shop can affect that coverage. We would rather you use the free option while it exists and call us when it runs out.

03

What we are, and what we are not

Are you part of Thermador?

No. We are an independent appliance repair company. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by Thermador or its parent company, and we do not describe ourselves as a service centre for them.

We say this on every page of this site, in the band above the header, because it is the sort of thing a customer deserves to know before they read anything else.

Then what credentials do you actually hold?

EPA Section 608 certified technicians for sealed-system refrigerant work. That is a genuine federal credential and it is legally required to open a sealed refrigerant circuit.

Licensed and insured in the State of Florida.

Those two, and nothing else. Anything a repair company claims beyond what it can produce on request is worth discounting.

Why only one brand?

Because a van can only carry so much. We stock Thermador door seals, hinge hardware, thermistors and control components rather than a thin spread of five brands, and we know which failures on this coast are common and which are red herrings.

If you have another make, we are the wrong call and will say so on the phone rather than take the diagnostic fee.

04

The beach conditions

What actually gets checked first on a visit?

The cheap physical things, in a fixed order: supply voltage measured at the appliance under load, airflow and clearance around the cabinet, door and hinge geometry, then the fill and drain paths, then the duct and the make-up air.

Electronics come last and only with a measurement behind them. A board is the most expensive part in most of these appliances and the least often actually at fault.

Is salt air really a factor a few blocks back from the ocean?

Yes. Salt is hygroscopic — it holds moisture against aluminium condenser fins and turns ordinary kitchen dust into a paste that packs the gaps rather than blowing through. Heat rejection drops, head pressure climbs, and a compressor that should cycle off simply stops doing it.

The same chemistry roughens hood blower bearings and finds its way into hinge pivots. Refrigeration that would go five years inland between condenser cleanings can be visibly loaded here in eighteen months.

My control board died after a storm. Is that normal here?

It is common. This coast sees roughly 68 thunderstorm days a year, and the damage is rarely a direct strike — it is the repeated small surges and brownouts on the way in and out of an outage that age a power supply until one day it does not come back.

A board that fails the morning after a storm has usually been failing for a season. Whole-house surge protection is the only thing that meaningfully changes the odds.
