What does a repair actually cost?
Researched bands for the repairs we are called out to, printed before you telephone rather than discovered afterwards. Parts and labour, fitted, on top of the flat diagnostic that is credited back when the work goes ahead.

The $80 buys the visit and the diagnostic sequence, and it comes off the bill the moment you approve the work. Every row below is a range because what a part costs turns on which production revision is sitting in your cabinetry, and nobody knows that until the rating plate has been read.

Labor is warranted 90 days. Genuine OEM parts are warranted 365 days from the date of installation.

Asked about the figures
Why is every repair quoted as a range rather than a figure?
Because the same model designation covers several production revisions, and the part that fits one is not always the part that fits the next. Until the rating plate has been read, a range is the most honest thing anybody can say. The exact number reaches you on paper once the appliance has been opened.
Is the diagnostic charged again if the repair needs a second visit?
No. The diagnostic is paid once, for the visit and the diagnosis, and it is credited toward the repair when you go ahead. A return trip to fit a part that had to be ordered is part of that repair, not a new call.
What if the estimate says the appliance is not worth repairing?
Then you have paid for a diagnosis and a written estimate and you keep both. Plenty of people take the paperwork, decide the appliance has had its run, and use it to argue the replacement. The comparison table on this page is there for exactly that conversation.

Bottles at the bottom were sitting far too cold and one had frozen. He found the sensor re-taped in the wrong spot by somebody before us, moved it and recalibrated. A written note of the changes would have helped.
